Maidenhead garden decking with Trex composite deck
A medium sized garden with a wraparound decking in Maidenhead had been used passed its best. The decking was rotten and the majority of the garden needed updating.
The decking design
The property had a dual rear aspect which had an existing decking arrangement. The clients wish was to replicate this with modern materials. It was presented to the clients that they could have a simple decking layout pattern or we could enhance the overall aesthetic by creating a chevron pattern. The concept had one or two minor adjustments and the design was signed off.
Building a new garden deck
BS5268-7.1 is the British Standard for joist construction which defines exactly how a decking structure is put together. This standard and various others which include Part K and EC5 (Euro Code 5) were observed. The post supports and beams are in accordance with regulations, as too for the joists. With no timber touching the floor and a weed membrane to cover the ground, we built a structure to last. The decking tape recommended by the manufacturer was also used. The posts used are recycled plastic called HDPE and its impossible for them to rot. They are set into concrete and form the perfect post supports for a low level decking structure.
Trex Transcend composite decking
The Composite decking used for this project in Maidenhead is called Trex®. This is the largest composite manufacturer in the world and one which uses 95% recycled materials. The decking boards from this range have a warranty of 25 years against rotting. The colour of the main decking is called “Island Mist”. The surrounding fascia boards are the new “White” colour.
